Around the Corner:

Welcoming Pastor Kelly Shoenfelt!: Sunday, July 1st
After a fond farewell to Pastors Eric and Valerie and their kiddos Caleb and Jacob, we are excited that next Sunday, July 1st marks a new era with the arrival of our new Pastor, Rev. Kelly Shoenfelt. Kelly brings many gifts and graces, and we can’t wait to welcome her into our Servant Church family. To learn more about Kelly, see Elysia and Ellen’s original announcement here.

Welcome Potluck for Pastor Kelly: Sunday, July 9th, 12:40pm
Let’s welcome Pastor Kelly and her family with a giant potluck family meal. Bring a favorite dish, or one of Kelly’s favorites (Queso, guacamole, salsa, tacos and fajita veggies, or burgers). We will have tables and chairs, plates and napkins, so just bring food and yourself! The potluck will begin right after church, which ends about 12:30pm. For more info, see the Facebook Event and comment to let us know what you plan to bring.

Prayers for Son Days Summer Camp: June 26th – 30th
Some other Servant Church family are helping to organize this week’s Second Annual Son Days Summer Camp, and some of our younger members are attending. Son Days is an overnight camp for 3rd through 5th graders, which provides an atmosphere of inclusiveness and loving guidance to learn the lessons of God’s Son, Jesus, in a serene and nurturing setting. Please keep all the camp counselors, including Kristen Hillert, and Ashley Schute. Please also pray for all of the kids attending, including (from our church), Silas Sawyer, Harlee Hillert, and Madison Harper.

Please pray in particular for safety and health, beautiful encounters with God and relationships with each other. If you wish to write a note of encouragement for any of the students or counselors going from Servant Church; we’ll deliver “mail” on a daily basis and it’s exciting for the kids to hear from the people in their lives who are praying for them!  And the adults appreciate the encouragement too! You may share notes with Kristen Hillert.

Servants Needed:

Meal Train for Humphries Family and Baby Asa
At Servant Church, we love to share hospitality, and meal trains are one of the tangible ways we do this. Kerri and Dan Humphreys, and big sister Ayana recently welcomed a new baby boy, Asa, to their family. Please sign up for the Humphreys family’s meal train here!

Meal Train for Stephanie Candrick and Taniyha
Stephanie Candrick and Taniyha have long been part of the Servant Church family. Recently, Stephanie was diagnosed with breast cancer. She has started chemotherapy through oral pills that are showing initial success. One way we can all support Stephanie and Taniyha during this time is by helping to provide healthy meals. Doctors need her overall health to improve so she can become a better candidate for surgery when the course of chemotherapy is completed. The doctors have encouraged a diet that is focused on fresh fruits and vegetables and lean meats (no red meat). Taniyha’s parents are often living with Stephanie, that’s why we’re requesting enough food for 3 adults.

Please sign up for their meal train here:
Serving Servant Kids: Godly Play and Actors of Light
Volunteering with kids classes at Servant Church is one way we fulfill our baptismal vows to support the spiritual formation of all of our children. Both Godly Play and Actors of Light need teachers as well as “doorkeepers” who assist the teachers with organization. All new volunteers get background checks, repeated every few years. And we also provide occasional trainings in Safe Sanctuaries practices and methods for teaching and connecting with the kids. We also need admin support volunteers to help organize our children’s programs. And we can always use the prayers of the community for our kids and volunteers!

If you’re at all interested, even if you don’t have experience with kids, please speak to Kristen Hillert, or email her at

Community Connections – Play Dates at Kensington: Thursdays in July
Every Thursday in July, join Kristen Hillert and Meredith Mackey and all their kids for a time of fun, games, snacks, and books at the Kensington Apartments (3300 Manor Rd.) near Servant Church. We’ll knock on doors and invite kids and families to join us in the courtyard from 9:30 – 10:30 am.  We’ll bring things to make sandwiches and books to read and leave with the families at Kensington. Childcare at the church is available for kids of volunteers ages 4 & under.  Older kids are encouraged to join the fun! Contact Kristen Hillert.

*Interested in helping but not able to come?  Ask about supplies needed!

Save the Date:

Servant Church Quarterly Work Day: Saturday Morning, Saturday, July 15th, 8am-12pm

Servant Church’s quarterly work day is back, with a brand new edition! Save the date to come out and help us spruce up and maintain our church building and premises. Due to the Austin summer heat, many of our activities this time will likely be indoors. We’ll do some landscaping early in the day and work on tidying up, cleaning out, and sprucing up our building with a variety of outdoor and indoor tasks. We need help from every age and skill level! Please fill out a card next Sunday and drop it in the basket to RSVP and let us know which activities interest you, or drop a line to Options include: (1) landscaping, (2) outdoor cleanup, (3) indoor cleanup, (4) indoor painting, (5) handyperson work, (6) furniture moving. Bring tools if you have them, and let the organizers know in advance what you plan to bring.

Thanks, and we’ll see you on the 15th!

Beer and Hymns: Monday, July 24th, 7-9pm
It’s exactly what it sounds like: We drink beer and sing hymns together. While in more traditional settings, these types of hymns sings were done acapella, we will have use of some talented Austin musicians to help lead us. We will have lyric sheets, but if it is a well-known classic you could persuade us to go off script. Beer and Hymns is all about community, which is why we gather at local places. Scholtz Garten has been serving Austin for over 150 years – that’s older than some of these hymns!

Your ticket is good for your first drink. Portions of each ticket will be going to Micah 6, a local non-profit which serves those experiencing homelessness in Austin. More information can be found on their website:

This event is being hosted by The Spiritual Transformation Project. More event details can be found here.
